Memorial Day 2022
VFW Post 3873, American Legion Post 43, and the Naperville Municipal Band will resume their regular Memorial Day observance activities on Monday, May 30, 2022. The day’s events will begin with a memorial service behind City Hall at the Commander Dan Shanower Memorial followed by additional memorial services at various military memorials around Naperville including Veterans Park, Ss Peter and Paul Cemetery, Burlington Square, and Naperville Cemetery.
The Memorial Day Parade will also resume this year with all participants. The parade is scheduled to begin at 10:30 am. A Memorial Day Observance Ceremony will be held at Central Park following the parade, beginning at approximately 12:00 pm. Members of the community are invited to join us as we conduct our memorial services and to come out to observe the parade.
The schedule of events for the day is:
Cmdr Dan Shanower Memorial 7:45 am
GAR Monument Naperville Cemetery 8:15 am
Veterans Park 8:35 am
Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery 9:00 am
Burlington Square 9:25 am
Service at Riverwalk memorial 10:20 am
Parade starts 10:30 am
Ceremony at Central Park 12:00 pm
We ask that residents help us observe Memorial Day this year by taking time to remember the significance of the day and to teach our youth that it is about more than BBQ’s, pool openings, and parades. We also ask that you participate in the National Moment of Remembrance, by observing one minute of silence at 3:00 pm for the many military veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives in service to our country, including the 114 residents of Naperville that died while on Active Duty.
